Finding someone with whom you would like to start up a committed relationship is difficult, but making the relationship lifelong may be a lot harder. There is hardly a relationship without conflicts. The way in which we manage these conflicts will define our personalities. Some couples will face harder challenges and this causes them to improve their relationship or it forces them to end the relationship. Then there are the families that have large conflicts that happen because of kids becoming teenagers. Regardless of the cause, conflict is inevitable and we all have to deal with it sooner or later. And to save the relationship we should learn to solve conflicts and work on the relationship using diverse tactics. Evolutionary researchers examined "mate retention tactics" in American men and ladies and found these strategies include being excessively watchful and threatening violence. Different gender strategies to save relationships were found out. To assess features valued in partners and how they keep their marriages intact, researchers of the University of Texas carried out a survey of 214 married people. Men, more than ladies, admitted that they victimised their social standing and financial success as a strategy to arouse interest in them, reported the authors. Men also reported to keep their spouses interested by making promises of change and making threats of sexual betrayal. Ladies were also more likely than men to work on their physical look as a tactic to keep their mate interested. As for infidelity, it was found out that if a man suspected that his wife was cheating, he would try to keep his wife from public activities, threaten punishment and criticize other men. Interestingly, women who suspected that their husbands were having an affair did not work on the relationship any harder than those without suspicions. Unfortunately, some male tactics involved some minor forms of physical abuse of wives, said the psychologists. For example, in an earlier survey, 72% of ladies requiring medical care reported that their husbands limited their contact with family members and friends, insisted on knowing the ladies' whereabouts and insulted women verbally.
