At present we talk a lot about antibiotic medicines. So what do antibiotic medications represent? Antibiotic medical products are chemicals got from microbes and destined to kill bacteria or slow their propagation. The first antibiotic medicine was created in 1928 by Alexander Fleming, and its production marked a new phase in the history of medical science. These medicines are widely used in the modern medicine. Physicians prescribe antibiotic medications to the patients with infections caused by bacteria. These medicines are not efficient against most viruses. That's the reason why your doctor won't always prescribe antibiotics when you suffer from an infection. There are numerous classifications of antibiotics. The most common division is "bactericidal" medications (their action is based on killing bacteria) and "bacteriostatic" ones (they work by preventing the reproduction of bacteria). Besides, different antibiotic drugs are different in use. Some of them are effective against one type of bacteria (also known as narrow-spectrum antibiotics, when at the same time others can handle a wide range of infections (these ones are famous as broad-spectrum antibiotic drugs). Note that antibiotic medical product is a strong medicine and should be used only in accordance with the physician's prescription. Don't think that the drug that helped your relative or friend will be suitable for you. Most probably it won't bring positive results, it may even do much harm. You should realize that antibiotics have side effects so forget about autotherapy. Your physician knows better what antibiotic drug and for what period of time you should take it. In spite of inestimable significance of antibiotic medications in modern medicine you should note that they are medications and have definite side actions. Although antibiotic medications evoke serious side-actions quite rarely, still such symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea will scarcely please anyone. You should also tell your physician about all the allergies you have or used to have since some antibiotics may evoke allergic reaction like face swelling, skin rash or itching. If you notice that the use of the antibiotic medication provoked some unusual reaction, stop its use and see your doctor asap. Stay in good health and keep in mind that your health is in your hands.
